Not so long ago I was standing in front of a class in Tel-Aviv university, talking about creating video content for the web. My advice to them was: Be persistent. Don’t just upload one or two videos. upload many.
How foolish and naive that advise was. It is SO HARD to just keep on going, not stopping after the first few attempts. Quite frankly, I was never been able to hold up consistently to any of my creative endeavors, that usually started off with a bang and just faded away silently after a few weeks. (and here’s a living example…). So it was more of a wishful thinking than a good advise.
Trying to understand why am I neglecting promising projects shortly after I start, I stumbled upon a book called “The seven habits of highly effective people”. You might have heard of that book, it was very popular when it first came out, more than 25 years ago. I found it to be very relevant for our times and it even shed some light on my consistency problem.
The first thing that struck me while reading this book, was how unprofessional I was trying to create. Working in strange hours, perfecting tiny bites that didn’t matter and mainly being unproductive.
A year have passed since I read the book and things have changed for the better. I’ve learned how to produce more, how to turn the noise down working, and mainly, how to form good creating habits. This is what I want to share with you today: how to form the habit of creating.
